Floor your entire home for about $5000 ?

Did you ever wish you could have new flooring installed in your whole house but you were under the impression that it would cost too much? Well…. I have news for you. If you are the do-it-yourself type of person and don’t mind a little hard work you can re-floor your entire home for about $5000. We’re not talking reflooring your home with peel-and-stick vinyl. We are talking about Ceramic tile and wood laminate flooring.

What does $5000 get you, you ask?

Assuming your home is 1500 square feet, you can install ceramic tile flooring in a 200 square foot kitchen and 2 bathrooms totaling 250 square feet. You can then plan to install wood laminate flooring in the rest of the house. That’s 1050 square feet of laminate flooring.

There are some other assumptions here. For the Laminate hardwood flooring you’re looking at about $3.00 per square foot. If you want better laminate flooring the cost can run you $4-$5 per square foot. You’ll also need flooring underlayment and moldings. The Ceramic tile flooring will cost run you $2.00 and up per square foot. You’ll also need nails, glue and grout for the tiles and the underlayment. This will run you about $150. A roll of underlayment can cover 100 square feet and cost at least $30 a roll for a total of $330.

So here’s how it all breaks down….

Ceramic Tile Kitchen and 2 bathrooms = $1000

Wood laminate flooring for living room and 3 bedrooms = $4000

Grand total = $5000

Now here’s the catch. The prices of ceramic tile and wood laminate flooring vary greatly. It’s best to shop online for better deals. You’ll pay a premium at places like Home Depot and Lowes. Compare online prices of the name brand floor coverings with the prices at Home Depot or Lowes for the best deal.

Don’t worry too much if you don’t have much experience with installing laminate flooring or ceramic tile flooring. There are many online sources that provide free information.
